Top 10 places to search for a Digital Forensics Job

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is where to find digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) roles. So I wanted to take a moment to share the top 10 places to look. One of the important take aways here should be that each of these sites has different jobs posted!

1) Ninja Jobs

Ninja Jobs specializes in cyber security roles. In addition to Digital Forensics and Incident Response roles, you will find other opportunities like Security Operations Center (SOC) roles that can be a great first step to breaking into Digital Forensics.

2) About DFIR

About DFIR has a jobs board that specializes in Digital Forensics and Incident Response roles. It is regularly updated with 9 different employers posting DFIR roles last month. This site is great as I sometimes find opportunities here that aren’t listed elsewhere. There are even a fair number of remote roles posted on the page.2)

3, 4, & 5) #DFIRJobs on Linked In, Twitter, and Mastodon

Not all posts are on job boards! A lot of roles are shared on social media sites like Linked In, Twitter, and Mastodon using the #DFIR hashtag.. It is important to make sure you are looking at all 3 sites as I find that different folks use different platforms and to get the full breadth of roles available you will want to check all three. For example this DISCO post isn’t on any of the other sites or locations to the best of my knowledge. While Mastodon is young, I suggest heading over to the Fediverse as a lot of DFIR and infosec folks have migrated there over the last month.

6) Digital Forensics Discord Server

Another great place to look for DFIR roles is the Digital Forensics Discord Server. There have been four postings here in the last 3 days. If you haven’t yet joined the server, I strongly advocate you join as the community has more than 10k members!

7) Get Your Start in DFIR

Get Your Start in DFIR from DFIRDiva is a fantastic resource for folks looking for internships or for roles that do not require experience. There tend to be less roles here as they are harder to find. However, there is a great opportunity posted there at the moment!

 8) Digital Forensics Careers

DigitalForensics.Careers is focused on government digital forensics jobs in the United States. If you are looking for contacts at State and Local jobs, this is a great resource. However, it doesn’t look like it has been updated in about 6 months. That said, for folks looking for State and Local job boards and what the role is called in different regions, this could still be a valid resource.

9) USAJobs

For anyone looking to work for the US federal government, you will want to check USAJobs. In many instances you may have to go to a particular agencies website, but this is a great starting place. There are also sometimes opportunities here for internships. I would note that many of these roles will be for US citizens only.

10) Forensic Focus

The roles on Forensic Focus’s job board tend to have a larger geographic range. Right now there are quite a few roles showing in the United Kingdom - but also roles across the United States. So if you are looking for a digital forensics role, this may be a great place to look!
